Dental check-up in Leicester
Catch problems early. Keep your smile healthy.
A thorough examination is the foundation of a healthy smile. At The Dental Edit, we take the time to look at the full picture, not just your teeth, so that small concerns are caught early and you leave with a clear understanding of where your oral health stands.
More than a quick look.
A dental check-up at The Dental Edit is not a five-minute tick-box exercise. We carry out a thorough examination of your teeth, gums, soft tissues, bite, and jaw, and we take the time to talk through what we find in plain language.
Our approach is unhurried and honest. If everything is fine, we will tell you. If something needs attention, we will explain what it is, why it matters, and what your options are. No unnecessary treatment. No pressure.
What your examination includes?
Every check-up at The Dental Edit covers the following:
Teeth — We examine each tooth for signs of decay, cracking, wear, and changes since your last visit. Where appropriate, we take digital X-rays to identify anything not visible to the naked eye.
Gums — We assess gum health, looking for early signs of gum disease such as inflammation, bleeding, or pocketing around the teeth. Gum disease caught early is far easier to manage.
Soft tissues — We check the inside of your mouth including the tongue, cheeks, and palate for any changes that may warrant further investigation, including oral cancer screening.
Bite and jaw — We look at how your teeth meet and any signs of grinding or clenching that could be causing wear or discomfort over time.
Existing restorations — We check the condition of any fillings, crowns, or other restorations to ensure they are still functioning correctly.
Cosmetic assessment — If you have any concerns about the appearance of your smile, whether gaps, chips, discolouration, or alignment, we will note these and talk through your options. Many patients discover that treatments like composite bonding or teeth whitening could make a meaningful difference.
Why regular check-ups matter.
Prevention is always better than treatment.
The most common dental problems, decay and gum disease, develop gradually and often without obvious symptoms in the early stages. By the time something starts to hurt, the issue is usually more involved to treat.
Regular check-ups allow us to spot changes early, when treatment is simpler, less invasive, and less costly. They also give us a clear picture of your dental history over time, which helps us make better decisions on your behalf.
Most patients benefit from a check-up every six to twelve months, though we will advise you on the right frequency for your individual situation.

Holistic approach.
We look at the whole picture, not just your teeth.
At The Dental Edit, we take a holistic view of oral health. Your teeth do not exist in isolation. The health of your gums, jawbone, bite, and surrounding tissues all affect one another, and all of them can have an impact on your general health and wellbeing.
We also consider how your smile makes you feel. If you leave a check-up with questions about something cosmetic, we will always take the time to answer them properly. Whether that leads to a conversation about composite bonding, a smile makeover, or simply reassurance that nothing needs to change, we treat every concern as worth discussing.
Technology.
Cutting-edge diagnostics, used with care.
The Dental Edit uses advanced digital X-ray technology that delivers a significantly lower radiation dose than traditional X-rays, alongside intraoral scanning and digital records that allow us to monitor your oral health accurately over time.
This technology does not replace clinical judgement. It supports it. Every finding is assessed in context, and we never recommend treatment on the basis of a scan alone.
New to The Dental Edit? Your first visit.
If you are registering with us for the first time, your initial examination gives us the opportunity to carry out a full baseline assessment of your oral health. We take a thorough medical and dental history, assess your teeth and gums from scratch, and build a clear picture of what your smile needs, now and in the future.
There is no obligation to proceed with any treatment at your first visit. We simply give you the information you need to make informed decisions about your own care.
We welcome nervous patients and take particular care to ensure your first experience with us is a calm and positive one. Find out more about how we support nervous patients.
Check-ups for the whole family.
We welcome patients of all ages at The Dental Edit. Establishing good dental habits early makes a real difference to long-term oral health. We take the same thorough, unhurried approach with younger patients and work to make every visit as relaxed as possible.
FAQ
Frequently Asked
Questions
How often should I have a dental check-up?
For most patients, once every six to twelve months is appropriate. Some patients with a history of gum disease, a higher decay risk, or active treatment needs may benefit from more frequent visits. We will advise you on the right schedule for your situation at your appointment.
What happens if a problem is found during my check-up?
We explain what we have found in plain language, what it means for your oral health, and what your options are. We never rush you into treatment. If something needs addressing, we will give you the time to understand it fully before deciding how to proceed.
Do I need X-rays at every check-up?
Not necessarily. We take X-rays when they will provide clinically useful information, not as a routine at every visit. When we do take them, we use digital X-ray technology that keeps radiation exposure to a minimum.
I have not been to the dentist in a long time. Will I be judged?
Absolutely not. We see patients regularly who have not visited a dentist for several years, for all kinds of reasons. Our priority is to understand where your oral health is today and work with you from there. There is no judgement, and no lecture.
Can I discuss cosmetic concerns at a check-up?
Yes. A check-up is a good opportunity to raise anything that has been on your mind about the appearance of your smile. We can discuss options such as composite bonding, teeth whitening, porcelain veneers, or clear aligners as part of the same conversation, with no obligation to proceed.
Do you do plans?
Yes we provide plans where you can save and ensure you’re keeping you dental health to the optimal level.
